London Olympic Village

Following the sudden death of a colleague MBA was called into provide trauma support for a major construction firm involved in the building of the Olympic Village. The incident happened in a highly visible location and caused strong reactions within the workforce.
MBA liaised with the company and they quickly developed a response plan that addressed the needs of the staff and the company. The difficulties of working within a highly secure area with ongoing construction were quickly dealt with an MBA organised an onsite intervention open to all staff that day. The staff seen reported a range of symptoms from fear to helplessness, shock and fear.
The meetings took place over a 12 hour period and were followed up four weeks later. In the meantime the staff had access to a 24 hour helpline number provided to them exclusively.
The company reported back to MBA that the staff were all coping much better post intervention, there had been no sick leave taken and there was a feeling of being understood and looked after by their employers at this difficult time. MBA then provided further information, a report and strategy document regarding the company’s response to the event.
